Hope for the Journey
Every journey has its highs and lows, but foster care and adoption bring a unique kind of terrain. One day may feel filled with laughter and progress, while the next feels like starting over. For many families, the thread that holds it all together is hope.
What Hope Really Looks Like
Hope isn’t a quick fix or a guarantee that everything will turn out the way we imagined. Instead, hope is the quiet strength that whispers, “Keep going. This is not the end of the story.”
For some families, hope looks like:
A child finally sleeping through the night after months of restlessness.
A teenager choosing to share a piece of their story for the first time.
Parents learning to celebrate progress instead of perfection.
Hope shows up in these small, everyday moments that remind us why we keep showing up, even when it’s hard.
Hope Beyond Feelings
There will be days when hope feels out of reach. Days when trauma, exhaustion, or heartbreak shout louder than faith. That doesn’t mean hope is gone; it simply means we need to look beyond our feelings and return to truth.
Scripture anchors us here:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” — Romans 15:13
Hope isn’t something we manufacture. It’s something God plants in us as we trust Him step by step.
Three Ways to Nurture Hope
1. Create space for reflection: Keep a small notebook or journal nearby. Jot down one “glimmer” you noticed each day: a moment of connection, a small win, or a reminder of God’s presence.
2. Surround yourself with life-giving voices: Find people who can speak encouragement when you’re too weary to encourage yourself. This could be a support group, a church family, or a trusted friend who knows your journey.
3. Build prayer into the ordinary: Hope grows when we invite God into the mundane. Pray while folding laundry, driving to appointments, or cooking dinner. Hope doesn’t require a perfect moment, just an open heart.
Final Encouragement
No matter where you are on the journey, know this: hope is not fragile. Even when circumstances shift, hope can remain steady because it is anchored in God. You are not walking this road alone. And sometimes, just knowing that truth is enough to take the next step.
